The Iron Game

Use It or Lose It! Welcome to 2012!

Do you have goals to improve your life in 2012? The Iron Game is a good start to get you going and achieving whatever your goals or resolutions may be for this coming year. It all begins with getting physical! Let me explain-New year’s resolutions are a defense mechanism, or excuse for achievements that for the most part will never be reached.

During the first quarter of every year, statistically, more exercise equipment is sold in the country than at any other time of year. In a matter of a few weeks most of this equipment sits idle in some corner of the purchaser’s home collecting dust or relegated as an expensive dumping station for clothes and stuff!

For the want-a-be’s, gym novice enthusiasts, physical opportunities are all around us. Want to get a good workout without going to the gym? Put down the T.V. remote, cell phone and turn off the computer, start with moving your body to clean your house or apartment. Yes, I said CLEAN! Get out the old broom and vacuum cleaner, get on the kitchen floor if you can, on your knees and scrub away. And YES, I do this myself all the time! Want to increase your arm strength? Wax your truck or car. Want to work your shoulders? Paint your home or apartment ceiling. Just get off the couch and DO SOMETHING PHYSICAL at least 3 to 4 times a week. Go to your local mall if you live in the cold areas of the country, and walk. Park your vehicle the farthest away from the store entrance and walk, take the stairs instead of the elevator. Find ways to incorporate more movement into your daily routines.

How about cleaning the walls and ceilings of your abode? You can break a good sweat with good old fashioned scrubbing. You want to work up such a sweat that it is running down your nose. Wear a long sleeve sweatshirt and sweatpants, definitely works in getting to the sweat level you want to achieve.

Do you desire to feel better emotionally or need a mood lift? The simple solution is to change your physical state by moving your body. I work out every day before I go to my job. My workouts put me in a good frame of mind to deal with the daily stresses of work and life. On weekends I am just as physical by tending to home projects, cleaning, yard maintenance, cleaning vehicles, helping family with their home projects, etc. Being physical most days of the week will help you be more positive in your emotions and mood, in addition to all the physical benefits to your body.

Once you become more physically active at home then we will talk about the benefits that you will enjoy by working out in a gym environment. Sedentary couch potatoes don’t do that well in a gym because they are asking for the impossible. Get physical at home first! Remember this, our bodies were made to move, if you don’t move you will age faster and will lose mobility not to mention you are more susceptible to age related health problems. SO LET’S GET MOVING!

Hehe, you’re absolutely right. Another time when people remember about their body is summer when they actually have to take off their clothes. The best time to do it is now! Because when you start little you get more into it. Good luck everyone!
